Obituary for Basilides Lee Rodriguez

Basilides (Lee) Rodriguez, 86, of Mantua, NJ, passed away at home on Tuesday, February 20, 2018. Lee was one of 16 children born to Jesus Maria Rodriguez and Dominga Carrion in San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico. He moved initially to Camden County, NJ as a young man, and made his living as a cook and later a handyman for an apartment complex in Haddon Heights.

Lee was a talented bowler, participating in numerous leagues, and was well known at alleys throughout South Jersey. It was at one of those venues, in fact, that he met the love of his life – Margaret Callahan – who became his wife in 1971. They were together until her passing in 2004.
A faithful parishioner at the 8:00 am service at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Wenonah, Lee took his job of greeting fellow members, and passing the collection plate with pride, dispensing special greetings to the ladies of the church every Sunday morning. In addition to his bowling interests, Lee was a huge Phillies fan and enjoyed talking about their highs and lows with friends. He is survived by 10 siblings, six of whom remain in Puerto Rico.

Services will be held on SATURDAY MARCH 17th, at 11:00 am at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 11 N. Monroe Avenue, Wenonah, NJ 08090. Anyone wishing to donate in his memory may do so to the Holy Trinity Youth Group Fund. Memories and condolences can be shared at www.smithfhmantua.com
