Obituary for John J Kane Jr.

John J. Kane, Jr. a great guy, a loving husband and wonderful father and grandfather went home to our Lord on Saturday, 08.08.2015 at 7:30 pm. at the age of 86 years.

An only child whose childhood included many pet dogs; he longed to have a larger family of his own...thus when he met a Georgia Peach, Lois C. Mickler, who became the love of his life while he was stationed at Hunter Air Force Base in Savannah, Georgia,; they married and started a family which consisted of L. Dianne, John Joseph, Constance and Candace with a later and much appreciated grandson, Grant Garrett.

A 2nd generation American Pole Catholic school taught and a graduate of Drexel University on a GI bill he was the proud son of Constance H. and John J. Kane. Declining an offer from Drexel to join the staff in a teaching capacity; he was drawn to the lure of sales and travel. His return from those business trips would often be marked with souvenirs for his children and a special charm for his wife to add to her already loaded charm bracelet.

Even though he never failed to provide for his wife and family he also would perform many functions people today may tend to outsource. He would tinker on cars and perform minor car repairs as necessary and not once but twice single-handedly transformed bare basements into "rec rooms" the rage at the time and which was the locale for enjoyable parties for the entire family and neighbors as well. Yard work included not just mowing but the mulching and moving of boulders and trees and planting of gardens. He was also on hand to offer encouraging words, wipe away tears and soothe broken hearts.

His retirement was a happy one and he and Mom were fortunate to travel both domestically and to foreign shores. How he loved this time. He was a romantic man and he and our Mom would always sign cards to each other "Love Always". This extended period of loving trips shared with our Mom was a source of consolation when needed later when he was without her.

Dad's giving was not limited to his family; he loved his faith and was an ardent parishioner of Incarnation Church in Mantua, NJ. He served as a lector and was a two time president of the Incarnation Seniors. He was also a Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council #6334 whose pet projects were children's Christmas parties and helping people with disabilities.

His health suffered many setbacks this year beginning with a foot wound and infection and numerous strokes succumbing to the most recent one which hit him on Friday. He was then placed on care and comfort from Holy Redeemer Hospice and his passing the following day was a peaceful one with his family with him.
Relatives and friends may visit from 9:45 to 10:45AM Friday, August 14th at Church of the Incarnation, 240 Main Street, Mantua, NJ, where a funeral mass will be held at 11AM. Burial will be private at Holy Cross Cemetery in Yeadon, PA. Contributions can be made to Church of the Incarnation. Memories and condolences can be shared at www.smithfhmantua.com
