Obituary for William G. Chambers

William George “Bill” Chambers passed away in his home on Monday, August 8, 2016 in Mullica Hill, NJ after a long, hard-fought battle with Alzheimer’s disease. He was 89 years old. His passing was peaceful, surrounded by his family.
Bill was born July 25, 1927 in Philadelphia, PA to his parents, Howard Stephen Chambers and Anna Marie Marowski. He graduated from Girard College in Philadelphia in 1945, and later went on to graduate from Rutgers University in 1966 with a bachelor’s degree of science. Bill married Theresa Marie Casale on February 14, 1953, and they became the parents to five children. Bill served in the United States Navy from 1945 to 1948, and displayed a love for his country up until his last day. After his time in the service Bill held several management positions in his 37 year career with DuPont and he served as their Director of Transportation and Logistics. Bill also served as an adjunct professor at Salem County College.
In his free time, Bill loved to golf, watch the Philadelphia Phillies and used his hands to reengineer anything he possibly could. He was truly a craftsman in so many ways. But his yearning for knowledge was his ultimate joy. Through his readings of poetry and literature, Bill did his best to obtain as much wisdom as possible and he passionately shared it with his children and grandchildren.
Bill is survived by his wife Theresa; his daughter Judith Chambers of Warrenton, VA; his son Bill Chambers Jr. of Clarksboro, NJ; his daughter and son-in-law Connie and Bill Jameson of Woodstown, NJ; his daughter and son-in-law Toni and Greg Esemplare of Haddonfield, NJ; and his son Dennis Chambers of Mullica Hill, NJ. Along with his children, Bill is survived by his siblings Margaret and John and by his seven grandchildren; Billy, Brenda, Eddie, Dennis, Erica, Paige and Adam. Bill was preceded in death by his two brothers, Lorin and Robert.
Family and Friends are invited to the celebration and honoring of Bill's life. Visitation will take place from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Sunday, August 14th, 2016 at Smith Funeral Home 47 Main Street Mantua, NJ 08051 and Monday, August 15th, 2016 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Catholic Community Of The Holy Spirit At Holy Name Of Jesus Parish Center 17 Earlington Ave. Mullica Hill, New Jersey 08062. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 am on Monday, August 15th, 2016 , with burial with military honors to follow at Gloucester County Veterans Cemetery in Monroe Township, NJ 08094. Donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Assoc. Delaware Valley Chapter, 399 Market St., Suite 102 Philadelphia, PA 19106 or Compassionate Care Hospice 248 E. Chestnut Hill Road, Suite 4, Newark, DE 19713. Memories and condolences can be shared at www.smithfhmantua.com
