Obituary for Eugene G. "Gene" Timmons

Eugene G. "Gene"  Timmons
Eugene G. Timmons "Gene" age 70, of West Deptford, formerly of Westville passed away suddenly on Monday, September 26, 2016 at home. Born in Woodbury, he served in the Marines during the Vietnam War and earned two Purple Hearts, and a Bronze Star for his service. Gene served as First Commander of the Gloucester County Veterans Committee, President of the Friends of the NJ Vietnam Memorial, a member of the Wenonah Marine Corp League, Last Patrol in NJ, and the West Deptford Veterans Committee for 25 years. He was instrumental in the creation of the Gloucester County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, in Monroe Twp., and the NJ Vietnam Memorial in Holmdel, NJ. Gene was very patriotic, and taught Vietnam History Class at Haddonfield High School. He also served on the W. Deptford Zoning Board, and Rent Control Board. Gene was a member of the Mullica Hill Rifle & Pistol Club, and former member of the Westville Fire Department, and coached Softball and Cross Country in West Deptford. He retired from Lilly Industries in West Deptford, and in his spare time he enjoyed cross country running, taking care of his home & his Ford Mustang. Most of all he enjoyed talking to people, helping veterans, and loved his family & adored his grandchildren.

Gene is survived by his wife Nancy Timmons (nee Verdinelli), his son, Gary (Rachelle) of Manchester Twp, his daughter, Lori Davis (Everitt) of Southampton, four grandchildren, Kaeleigh, Morghan, Easton & Paige, his sister, Carol Grizzard, and his brother, Charles "Skeeter" Timmons (Charlotte).

Family & friends may visit from 8:30 AM to 11 AM on Saturday, October 1st, at Smith Funeral Home, 47 Main Street, Mantua, NJ where a funeral service will be held at 11 AM. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Gloucester County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Monroe Twp., NJ.
