Obituary for Douglas Paul "Pic" Villanova

Douglas Paul "Pic"  Villanova
Douglas Paul Villanova ("Piccolo" or "Pic"), age 70, of Clarksboro passed away Monday, June 5, 2017 at home from esophageal cancer. Douglas graduated from Glassboro State College, completing two post-graduate masters degrees in the field of education. He formerly served as a teacher and principal for the East Greenwich School System, also being named 1974 New Jersey State Teacher of the Year for his innovative techniques of teaching science. Douglas was an avid sports fan coaching youth baseball, basketball, and soccer throughout the years. Later in life, Douglas exhibited his passions through a meticulously kept lawn as well as a love for all aspects of the University of Notre Dame athletics program. Douglas was best known for his nimble wit and perpetual ability to bring laughter to a room. Son of the late Monica (Sharbaugh) and Joseph Villanova.
Husband of Shirley A. Villanova (nee Doerrmann), also survived by son Patrick Douglas Villanova, brother Dean (Elaine) Villanova, sisters Judy (Joe) Stalter, April (Bill) Gott , Carla (Lester) Abernathy, sister-in-law Joan Villanova. Predeceased by brother Kenneth Villanova.
Family and Friends are invited to visit from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm on Friday, June 9th, at Smith Funeral Home 47 Main Street Mantua, NJ 08051. Funeral Service will be held at Noon on Friday at the funeral home. Burial to follow at Eglington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Lung Transplant Foundation P.O. Box 33126 Raleigh, NC 27636-3126 Northeast Chapter or lungtransplantfoundation.org/donate.
