Obituary for Charles Peter Cupit

Charles Peter  Cupit
Charles Peter Cupit age 89, of Sewell passed away Thursday, February 22, 2018 at Kennedy University Hospital. Known to family and friends as Peter, he was born and raised in Derbyshire, England and attended Borough Road Teacher Training College near London. He then served in the Royal Education Corps of the British Army from 1948-1950, where he met his wife, Theresa. In 1954 they emigrated with their daughter Jane to Philadelphia where he lived and worked until moving to Sewell, NJ in 1973. Peter studied Engineering at Temple University and started his career in the scientific and technical field at General Electric in Phila. He later spent many years at TRW in Phila. and eventually worked for Lockheed-Martin in Moorestown NJ, where he was involved in research and development for the US Navy's "Aegis" Ballistic Missile Defense System until he retired in 1987.

After retirement he was deeply involved in the daily running of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Mullica Hill, NJ, where he served on the Vestry and in the choir for many years. He was an avid gardener, reader, handyman and explored many interests. He was well known for his zany sense of humor. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Husband of Ellen M. Theresa Cupit (nee Walshe), also survived by daughter Jane Ricketts and her husband Glenn, grandchildren Christopher and his wife Laura, Elizabeth, Margaret, and Charlie, great grandchildren Ceili, Gabriel, Benjamin, and Noah, sister Pauline Wale and her husband Albert, brother Kenneth Cupit and his wife Margaret, and their families.

Family and Friends are invited to visit from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church 51 N. Main Street Mullica Hill, NJ 08062. Memorial Service will be held at 12 Noon. Burial to follow at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church Cemetery. Reception immediately following in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. Memories and condolences can be shared at www.smithfhmantua.com
