Obituary for Sidney A. Howarth Jr.

Sidney A.  Howarth Jr.
Sidney A. Howarth Jr. age 87, of Sewell passed away on Monday, March 27, 2017. Sid was a 1948 graduate of Pitman High School where he was a three-sport letterman, competing in football, basketball and track and field. He held the South Jersey record for the javelin throw in his senior year. Sid also attended and played football for Albright College until he entered the Navy; proudly serving aboard the USS Hornet as a corpsman during the Korean War. He was a Sewell resident since 1957. He was a retired chemist from DuPont Corp., Struthers & Dunn, and, late in his retirement, thoroughly enjoyed working for Smith Funeral Home. Sid was a past president and active member of the Mantua Lions Club.

Sid met the love of his life, the late Virginia Belle Howarth (nee Nicholson) in his junior year at Pitman HS. The high school sweethearts married in 1950 and enjoyed a 57-year loving marriage, until her passing. He is survived by sons Sidney A. (Skip) Howarth, III & his wife Denise (residing in Mount Holly NJ), Steven E. Howarth & his wife Rita (residing in Minneapolis, MN); 6 grandchildren Alison (Steve) Mak, Kate (Don) Dzedzy, Tom (Christine) Howarth, Brandon, Kirby & Paige Howarth; 4 great grandchildren Arden, Rowan, Ella & Alyssa; and sister Diane Fee.

Family & Friends may visit from 9:30 am to 11:00 am on Wednesday, April 5th, at Smith Funeral Home, 47 Main Street, Mantua, NJ. A Funeral Service with Military Honors will be held at 11:00 am. Private Interment will be held at a later date.
