The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Donald McGee can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

The lighting of a Memorial Candle not only provides a gesture of sympathy and support to the immediate family during their time of need but also provides the gift of extending the Book of Memories for future generations.

memories of Mr. Don E McGee

I first met Mr. McGee in 1956 as a Cub Scout. Like dozens of other boys we learned outdoor skills from Cub Scouts thru Troup 45 Boy Scouts, and Mr. McGee was the backbone of both. He would haul boys and camping gear what seemed like miles in his ‘Campbell’s Irrigation’ panel truck. Summer trips would find us camping in the pineys, while in winter we stayed warm in the Adirondacks [3 sided bunk buildings] at Camp Roosevelt. These structures only existed because he and a couple other men donated their skills and time to build them!

In the process he also imparted character, and how to be a real man. I never once heard him complain, he would just analyze the problem, devise a solution, then resume going forward. At the same time not once did he boast about his accomplishments, in fact most don’t know the many good deeds he’s done for others.

The last comment here is about his story telling and sense of humor. He had a way of telling stories about his youth that would make you laugh, such as his crystal radio extended antenna channeling lightening into his bedroom, or his bicycle camping trip to Wildwood.

While I’m sad to hear of his passing I feel privileged to have known and learned from him.
